I know that sounds like a lot for a fish gig but, don't
forget, it did take my Dad a WHOLE DAY to make just one fish gig and we only have a few left. So they're
also a collector's item.
We do have a couple of SHARPENED AND FINISHED 4 prong fish gigs
(very few...so they're $599 each).
We will sell at least one more for $599.
If you know someone that currently has one of my Dad's fish gigs tell them ...their fish gig just went up in value...
because we're almost out of inventory and to my knowledge nobody else is making good fish gigs like my Dad used to make them.
I guess it's a lost art. Ha! We may never sell one for $599 but my Dad would turn over in his grave if he knew
we turned down $599.
Generations
of Bakers had been blacksmithing since the early 1800's, so it was no surprise that, my Dad, Donald Baker (an avid sportsman)
started forging and hand making FISH GIGS when he retired in 1982. IT TOOK MY DAD ABOUT SIX
TO EIGHT HOURS TO MAKE A SINGLE FISH GIG! (so either way they're still a great value)
Fish gigging
is an excellent way to harvest rough fish out of our streams and waterways. Our family mostly fish gigs in the winter when
the water is clearer. We have fish gigged in many of Missouri’s lakes and rivers. We have mostly fish gigged in the
Current River, Black River, Logan Creek, Meramec River, Big River, Clear Water Lake and Table Rock Lake type areas. My Dad
loved making fish gigs, and in my opinion there is no better fish gig on planet earth. These DONALD BAKER FISH GIGS
are cut out of old car springs, and then hand shaped to give them a unique grabbing and holding characteristic unsurpassed
by any other fish gig. On impact this fish gig kind of springs open, just a little bit, and actually grabs ahold of the fish
as it retracts back to its original position. Don’t forget they’re made out of OLD CAR SPRINGS!

My Dad, Donald Baker (a 4th generation Blacksmith from Ellington, Missouri) had been forging and welding FISH GIGS most of his life. He first developed an interest in welding and blacksmithing in 1943 at the age of 16. America was at war with Germany and the GERMANS WERE SINKING OUR SHIPS FASTER THAN WE COULD BUILD THEM! Grandpa Baker had traveled out to Portland, Oregon to help build ships in the ship yard. After a couple of weeks, he sent for my Dad. Young Donald rode the train from Ellington, Missouri, to Portland Oregon, when he was 15 years old and learned how to weld ships. The Navy was working on fine tuning a depth charge (sunken radio routine) to sink German subs. My Dad said he remembered well an announcement one day in the ship yard... “WE’RE FINALLY MAKING SHIPS FASTER THAN THE GERMANS ARE SINKING THEM!
